Our Middle School offers a rich curriculum, challenging athletics, ample opportunity for extra help, and a place to grow and develop that is safe, secure, and often filled with laughter. While we strive to do the best we can, and instill that in our students, we don't take ourselves too seriously and we like to have fun.
Students refine their time management skills, organization, and study skills as they take courses in five main academic areas: English, math, science, foreign language, and history, as well as art, music, computers, health, and life skills. Class requirements are age-appropriate and reflect the rigor of Wooster's academic program. Small classes of about a dozen students allow teachers to get to know their students well. A well-honed advisory system helps strengthen important student-teacher relationships and conquers academic issues as they arise.
We are very concerned about the social curriculum as well. Here is another role of the advisory system. Social issues of all kinds are dealt with directly in both mixed and single gender groups two times a week, as well as in our daily Advisory/check-in periods at the start of every school day.
Finally, our Jobs/Self-Help Program, which runs all the way through our Upper School, is a vital piece of our program. Each student works a half hour each day to help clean or maintain all aspects of the school. We are building leaders from the beginning. We don't just say it, we do it.
Please come see us in action.
Warmly,
Jocko McKean
