Frequently Asked Questions
Public Access Blocked
The admissions cycle generally begins in the fall for a February notification date. You may begin the admissions process at any time, though after the February notification date we go to rolling admissions for applications received after February 1st. Financial Aid applications are accepted as early as November 15th.
We hold All-School Open Houses in October and May. However, if you missed that or are unable to attend, please call the school to set up a tour and meeting with the Admissions Associate who will be helping you through the process. Our phone number is 203-830-3916.

All of our Applications for Admission are online. Please click on Application for Admission to be directed to our application. You will see that all of the supplemental forms require you to download the forms and to take them to your child’s school.
No, but we do expect to receive a significant number of applications by February 1 of the year of entry. We may have some grades where accepted students may need to go into a waiting pool if the application for admission is not processed before February 1.
Yes. There is both a parent and student component to the visit. Please click on this link Admissions to go to our Admission page for the step-by-step process.
We begin accepting financial aid applications after November 15 of the year prior to entry (for example November 2012 for school year 2013-14). We require that students who will be getting a late February admission decision complete their financial aid form and have it submitted by January 24, 2013. Click here for Financial Aid Information.
Parents should expect to have their specific questions answered. During our meetings a walking tour of the school is included, a time to ask questions, and most importantly a time to talk about your child. As part of the Application process, there are several questions that you will answer directly about your child.
Students will visit in the grade they are currently in and will be asked by the teacher to participate. Additionally, there will be some time when a teacher or a member of the admissions team will work one-on-one with the child. There is not special preparation needed but do let your child know that there will be class time, some time with a teacher, and, of course, lunch and recess!
Students applying to 6th or 9th grade, who are currently either 5th or 8th graders, will visit the grade they will enter in the next school year. We do this because both the Middle School (grades 6-8) and Upper School (grades 9-12) have distinct buildings and are in separate facilities. Students in other grades visit with their current grade level. After students are offered admission, students often come and visit again so they can visit with their grade- level peers. During the daylong visit, the student will sit in classes, talk to a member of the Admissions Office Staff, and experience a day at Wooster.
Lunch is a very important part of the school day. All students in each academic division eat lunch together in our Dining Room; visiting students will do the same. Each table has a faculty member or, in the case of the Upper School, a 12th grade student or faculty member. We sit in small tables of about 10 and there are a variety of lunch options. Lunch expenses are part of the school tuition. Please visit Sage Dining for more information.
The first admission decisions for the next school year are made in mid-February. We make decisions on a rolling basis after March 1. Please go directly to our Admissions Timeline for this calendar year’s dates (Admissions Timeline).
Applying for financial aid will not impact your child’s chances of admission. Wooster School admits students on the applicant’s admission materials and not on the family’s economic circumstances. Please know that there are more students offered admission to Wooster than there is available financial aid. There are instances when students are offered admission, but the school is not able to offer financial aid to support the student’s attendance at Wooster.
Tuition includes lunch and some school materials beyond the cost of tuition. There will be textbook charges that can approach $500 for the Middle and Upper School. Students purchase textbooks for grades 6 and above in many subjects. We will provide a textbook list around July 1 for the next school year.
Students of all ages may take private instrumental or voice lessons during a free period, recess, or after school, for an additional fee.
Lower school students are required to wear Wooster logo clothing for physical education so there will be an additional expense for those.
