Middle School Athletic Requirements and Offerings

The athletic and physical education programs are an integral part of the total curriculum and strive for the development of the whole individual through healthy interscholastic competition and lifelong recreational activities. In addition to teaching the skills and rules of particular sports, the teaching/coaching staff promotes the development of personal values by encouraging each student-athlete to appreciate sportsmanship, cooperation, respect, commitment, determination, confidence, and community.

Each season, students in grades 6-8 will choose to either participate on one of our athletic teams, or to participate in our physical education program. Both programs occur simultaneously three days per week during the course of the academic day. Interscholastic contests take place in the afternoon hours, following the academic day.

Student-athletes participating on a team are expected to make the full commitment to practices and games.

6th Grade Program:

The “Maroon” teams will have tryouts to ensure that players have the necessary ability, desire, and motivation. A more competitive atmosphere will prevail during practices and games. Games will occur at a rate of one per week, starting in the second week of the season. All students will receive playing time in every game, but not necessarily equal playing time. Games are primarily scheduled on Wednesdays.

The “White” teams will not have tryouts, providing the opportunity for everyone to be on a team. This will be an intramural team and will not have interscholastic competition. All students will receive equal playing time in every game. Intramural games will be scheduled on Wednesday afternoons throughout the season.
