Happenings in the Lower School
Second grade students visited Mr. Golding’s office and shared their animal projects from the Pacific Northwest region. Their posters will be displayed in the admission’s reception area for visitors. Please visit these wonderful research projects. Thanks to parent, Jodi Felton, second and fifth grade students went to the Westport Art Center’s Toy Makers Exhibit.
Here are Jodi’s observations and that of the educational director: The children represented Wooster beautifully. Danielle Ogden (the education director at the Westport Arts Center) was wowed by the Wooster students. She thought it was wonderful how respectful they were of each other and how they gave credit to the other students who brought up thoughts before they did that helped them think in a new direction during discussion time. Ms. Ogden mentioned that the students’ responses were obviously in line with 21st century teaching. I thought that was an amazing connection. She thought it was beautiful how the children thought, took chances, and behaved.

Lower School Science Recycling Project
The lower school students are initiating a recycling program for used electronics at Wooster. In our attempt to help protect our environment, we are collecting the following old or unwanted items: old cell phones, TI Graphing Calculators, Escort, Beltronics & Cobra Radar Detectors, TomTom, Garmin, Magellan & Mio GPS, PS3, Wii or Xbox 360, digital cameras, digital video cameras, handheld game systems, digital SLR camera bodies and/or lens, old iPads or Tablets, and Laptops / Notebook Computers. There will be a bin in the Lower School Grover Cloister, inside the front door of the Middle School, and in the Library.
Wooster Drama Department presents INTO THE WOODS (because of the fairy tale theme, this performance would be best for children third grade and up). Be careful what you wish for: that's the message behind the Tony Award-winning musical, Into the Woods, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. In this modern re-telling of our favorite fairy tales, characters such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf, the Witch, and many others learn that "Happily Ever After" might not be so happy after all. This musical, suitable for all ages, will be presented in the Black Box Theatre on Friday, February 24, at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, February 25, at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The March dates are Friday, March 2, at 7:30 pm and Saturday, March 3, at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Make reservations by calling Anne Gilson at 203-730-6705 or emailing her at Anne [dot] Gilson [at] woosterschool [dot] org. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.
Parenting Tip of the Month: Teach by modeling – “Try apologizing to your child if you have been disrespectful. Children are forgiving, and you will both feel better.”
