For Wooster sixth graders, the Student of the Month assembly is a time to reflect. Reflecting on how far they have come in the past 5 months, they also think about how far they will go in the months to come. This time to reflect on the past and look towards the future invites them to explore new perspectives, look at the bigger picture, and take advantage of life’s opportunities to learn something new as well as honor character.
January’s Student of the Month, Reed Baker ’19, has the ability to do just that. Reed is respectful, patient, genuine, and has a wonderful ability to recognize the opportunity to learn something and get the most out of it. He knows how to be completely present in the moment. He has a cooperative spirit, is a good friend, and a good listener; He has fun with his classmates, but also knows when it is time to get to work and seize the moment. In the arctic temperatures of Nature’s Classroom, this student exuded warmth though his positive attitude, kindness, respect, and openness towards the day. This was very much appreciated and recognized by his Wooster and Nature’s Classroom teachers. Whether he is home on the Wooster campus, or anywhere else, this student is a wonderful representative of the 6th grade class, demonstrating humility, curiosity, and independence.
Reed’s teachers share that this student is “bright, thoughtful, and engaged… He is completely invested in what Wooster’s Middle School offers. He is interested, hard working, is a superior listener, and demonstrates real effort in class. He makes the learning process look easy, but this illusion of ease is actually built upon good old-fashioned hard work. He works hard, and he cares about what he does… Reed clearly understands the line between work and play. His ability to self-monitor and understand this fine and complex balance is truly extraordinary, and certainly it helps not only in class but also in all of his work in the Wooster Middle School… He is very respectful and is always willing to help. He is a great friend to his peers and works very hard academically… thus, gentleman, friend, and scholar.”
Reed’s gentle spirit, generous acts of kindness, truthful character, kind heart, and courageous independence are appreciated by all. Congratulations, Reed Baker, for being Wooster’s 6th Grade Student of the Month.
